Baby Names
Attention Danny’s friends:
Danny bought me a HUGE book of baby names a few months into our relationship. I submit to you that my weird name preferences are due to his influence. He bought the book because I find “collecting” names and name origins interesting as a hobby of sorts, not because he wanted me to start having babies. Very cute gesture, though.
One of my babies will be named Stobie, no ifs, ands, or buts. It is my father’s name and will be my child’s name, girl or boy. *I* was going to be Stobie until my parents decided they didn’t want to have to say “Big Stobie” and “Little Stobie”, so my brother got it as a middle name, but I came very close to being Stobie myself. Also, Stobie the man is AWESOME and he deserves a child named after him. It is not short for anything, it’s just “Stobie”. I call him by his first name as often as I call him “dad”.
My 6 year old cousin Christopher randomly named one of his Webkins Stobie. SO CUTE.
Also of note, Danny keeps eating my candy when I leave it at his apartment. And he says I eat too much candy. Jerk.
Speaking of Circe, I knew a girl in college named Searcy and she was very pretty so I guess I think of pretty girls when I hear it, but I prefer the classic spelling. But no matter because the name is off our list anyhow. I don’t mind much. It wasn’t a Top Ten or anything.

Hi Meg,
I’m one of Danny’s “friends” (hell if I know, the kid probably hates me cause I can’t spell. Blame these damn New England schools). You have chosen some very unique names. Some of them I’ve never heard of before. I’m not knocking these names….they’re just very….weird. Feel free to pick any name you like, as it’s not up to me ;). I just told Danny that they were very strange names.
If you would like to discuss this further, don’t hesitate to email me.

I like simple names myself: Sam, Max, Andy, Mac. The fun thing is they work on both guys and gals.

It really annoys me when people spell a name anyway they like. Searcy is totally illegit. A bastard name if you will. Don’t even get me started about a girl named Meree at Rice. It’s not like Sarah with or without an h that could be argued either way. Meree? Are you kidding me? Also, I don’t like it when people “creatively” pronounce a name that has a common spelling. This happens often with the name Yvonne, which I have heard pronounce why-von and also why-von-knee and even ya-von. It’s E-von, people. E-von.
I also love the name of Max. If the Simpsons hadn’t done it already, I would name a child Max Power.
